Assignment one

1) Please summarize in a couple of sentences how Gutenberg influenced not only the renaissance, but the modernization of the western world.
He invented the steel durable printing press. "He essentially mechanized the craft of woodblock printing". He changed how things were done, making it easier and more available.

2) Please discuss how you think these advancements continue to influence contemporary art making.
We still use this method in some areas. It was definitely one of the building blocks of art, revolutionized how things were done. We still base techniques off them.

3) Thinking about these issues, how does photocopier art relate to the history of the letterpress? How is it similar? How is it different?
"The premise of this second take is that copy art is defined as work where the artist purposely uses a copying device to produce something which is not a copy and can therefore only be called an original by using certain more or less well-known techniques to divert the photocopier from its normal function"  They're alike because they make copies, but you can change them, design them and convert. But they are different in this aspect too.

4) Briefly do a search for contemporary print work and, after you have found two or three images you like, post them to your blog.
(It's not allowing me to post any images.)
5) Please look up a few of the words you are not sure about the meaning of. Make a list of the words and their definitions on your blog. Please use dictionaries and encyclopedias or other valid sources (they can be online, but not wikipedia or any other such public website) for this exercise.
Please rephrase the definition. Do not copy/paste definitions.

ostensible- outwardly appearing as so.
myriad- a great number of objects or persons.
